A town of lights begins to choke on smoke

The forest whispers things I shouldn’t see

A shadow breathes behind the radio tone

Street lamps flicker like a dying plea

The manuscript predicts the broken bones

The ending waiting somewhere after me

The lines repeat, repeat inside my head

The ink is thick with things already said

The words I write are words I dread

The story’s always ahead
